This is usually a fairly easy fix but you must have a real XP installation disc. The recovery disc won't work. See if you can borrow one from a friend or you'll have to take the machine to a competent local professional. Don't use a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place. WINDOWS COULD NOT FIND START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT WINDOWS ROOT>\SYSTEM32\hal.dll That message is rather misleading. It happens because the boot.ini file that tells the boot where to look for 'Windows' is damaged, so it is looking for files in the wrong place - hal.dll just happens to be the first one it looks for. Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password requested is blank, and TAB over. Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot.ini [enter] DEL C:\boot.ini [enter] to delete the bad one BootCfg /Rebuild [enter] to search for Windows installations and make a new one. Then hopefully boot into Windows. An uninstall can remove orunregister dll files used by other applications. Try reinstalling the uninstalled application and see if that resolves the issue. The same thing for installs. If you install an application and it replaces a DLL with either a newer or older version. That new dll may not have all the functions the other application needs to run.It is highly recommended you download the best PC optimization tool to fix registry error, you can easily fix any PC errors and speed up your computer in just minutes.Free Download the PC Tune-Up Tool ...
